Wind and more wind ...

After our overnight stop at Grindells Hut we found a different track to come out of the Gammon Ranges, much easier than the track in!

We then headed up to Arkaroola, grabbed fuel and a coffee and set off on our quest to find the track to Lake Frome.  We had a win!  Thirty-eight kilometres later there it was, a huge expanse of sand and dry crusty salt surface stretching on and on, so pleased we had found the right track.

Lake Frome

After leaving Lake Frome we started the trip to Moolooloo Station via Copley and Leigh Creek. We are doing very well at collecting dust….but I figure dust is better than mud! Moolooloo is a 150,000 acre working merino sheep station. It was the starting point for the expedition of John McDouall Stuart in 1861 when he crossed Australia from north to south. There are also a number of historic copper mines on the property from the 1860’s.

We have a great site at Moolooloo beside a dry creek, unfortunately the wind continues to blow, but we do have beautiful clear, blue skies. During our stay here we will take the opportunity to explore some of the old mine ruins as well as Ferguson Gorge all located on the property.
