Lovely Lake Pamamaroo

We walked the gorge (about 3 hours round trip) at Mutawintji National Park got back to camp and decided to cut our losses and run  … after 2 days of 34 degrees and 60kmph winds with red dust billowing around us and coating everything … we packed up and headed to Lake Pamamaroo via Broken Hill (100km south west of Broken Hill) … unsealed road for about 130km then onto the Silver City Highway (bitumen at last!).

Didn’t see another vehicle until we reached Broken Hill.

Bitumen out to Lake Pamamaroo then more dirt .... found a fabulous, private free camp spot right on the lake.  The temperature hadn’t changed but the wind was slightly less and there was no more red dust coating everything.    Setup camp and witnessed a stunning sunset across the water.

The wind abated then a few drops of rain.  Next morning … no wind!

Bird life simply incredible from pelicans soaring across the lake then dropping down near us to rest or feed; water birds walking along the waterline in front of us with lots of tiny coloured wrens and budgies foraging.

Good decision to change our plans and move on … provided us with an opportunity to just sit and relax in a beautiful setting; recharge our batteries (and the Tvan); do a spot of cleaning and have nice warm shower!

Last night the waves coming across the lake towards us were about 30cm high and roaring … today it is like a mill pond!
