The past 3 days were impromptu … our campsite overlooks Proper Bay, part of Boston Bay (which is the largest natural harbour in Australia) with our own private beach front!
This is a very quiet and peaceful campground, the weather has been fabulous clear blue skies, gentle breeze and tops of about 20 degrees, nights have been quite chilly. There are only 4 allocated, unpowered campsites. Access is 4WD only, suitable for tents and camper trailers. No facilities, nearest are at Stamford Hill (approx. 16km). Totally off grid – although we can still get 4G coverage (4 bars at that!) as we can see the tower directly across the bay from us.

We have done a couple of walks along the cliff face and inland tracks, although the walks were only about 8 kms in total … it took us a little while as we took the opportunity to stop and photograph the wildflowers. Have done a spot of fishing ... we can confirm that all fish in the bay remain in their natural habitat!

This is our last day in Lincoln National Park, tomorrow we head to Coffin Bay National Park where the weather forecast is not looking so great! We plan an early departure from here so we can get setup at Coffin Bay ready for the AFL grand final…go Lions!

After our first month on the road, we have travelled about 5,000 kms; averaged 12.4 lts per 100km of diesel (with prices ranging from $1.67 p/litre to $2.25 p/litre); lowest consumption 10.4 l/p 100km and the worst 28.7 l/100km (Cate’s 4WD baptism into Grindells Hut); consumed 22 cans of alcoholic ginger beer; 24 small cans of tonic (perfectly matched with approximately 2.2 lts of gin); and maybe a couple (or a couple of couples) of bottles of wine … but who’s counting!; lots of broken fingernails but nothing else has fallen off; broken or stopped working … so far.

The next major leg is across the Nullarbor to start the Western Australia section of our travels. The majority of these kilometres which will be bitumen.
