After close to three weeks on the road and 4,000km, we very much enjoyed our night at the Prairie Hotel in Parachilna. Fantastic accommodation, great staff, wonderful food and fine wine all made for a great outback experience. We enjoyed emu pate, camel sausage, braised kangaroo tail and quandong pudding.

From Parachilna we head off for the next big drive to Edeowie Station ... 38kms, 98% on bitumen! We are here for three nights.
Edeowie is located on the western side of the Flinders Ranges National Park. Edeowie was established in 1859 by William Marchant, he stocked it with sheep. Today, the property continues operating as a sheep station.
The sunset last night was beautiful and was quickly followed by the rising of the harvest moon. The harvest moon is the September full moon and got its name because the brightness of the moon helped farmers harvest their crops (northern hemisphere). It certainly was a great sight from the kitchen as I got dinner organised.

Today we did a drive on the property, a 23 km loop that gave us access to the walk into Bunyeroo Gorge. The 8km return walk into the gorge is very well sign posted, providing lots of geological information and beautiful scenery.

We even found an echidna along the way. He seemed quite happy to sit there and continue eating while he had his photo taken. We met a few other folk on the walk all wearing the local (much needed) fashion accessory…the fly head net!

Tomorrow we will head to Edeowie Gorge, a short drive from our campsite up to the National Park fence. Apparently a little more challenging than today’s walk so we will see how we go.
