Ahh ... the joys of travel ...

Well ... we've now been on the road for 5 days and already experiencing the joys of travel ... in so many ways ... freedom ... flies ... floods ... road closures ... plan changes and diesel fills!
After trying to go west and being road blocked we had a Committee Meeting and decided that we would head north to Longreach then Mt Isa then back down the Stuart Highway to Alice Springs ... do the MacDonnell Ranges then head back up Binns Track to Tennant Creek and pick up our travels to Arnhem Land.
Another Committee Meeting the following morning ... when is the car due for a service? 3,000kms ... We could get it done in Alice Springs ... that'd be over 2000kms plus ... but that would mean staying overnight (or 2) in Alice Springs ... nope - not doing that. Ok ... let's go south ... so we packed up from Currawinya National Park pledging to come back and headed south ... we found great free camp about 60kms north of Cobar in the bush ... a blazing campfire, a home made madras curry and a nice glass of red. Meanwhile, managed to get the car booked for a service in Mildura for Monday (anything else was 2-3 weeks wait).

While heading to Broken Hill and thinking where will we stay the night while having a couple of days until we need to get to Mildura, we decided to head to Mutawinji National Park which we visited previously. The 50 odd kms of dirt was just nice! Now we really look like we are ready for an offroad adventure or have just had one!

I mention diesel ... we had forgotten how much it costs to fill a long range tank ... and that is a reasonably cheap price (last trip we paid $3.49 per litre on the Great Central Road).

Morning shot at Currawinya NP (we were camped just off to the right)

We will now have 2 nights at Mutawinji before heading (hopefully) to Lake Pamamaroo then Mildura.. I say hopefully ... it is possible that the roads may be closed due to flooding ...

All sounds like fun Cathy and Pete, whichever way you travel. I feel the pain of the long range tanks but at least you are not going by boat. I was with a bloke the other day, filling the tanks for a run to Airlie Beach - $2843 to fill and they weren't empty.
Magnificent colours in your photos.
